My Favorite Time of Year
Posted by Todd Porter on August 26, 2008
I love summer and the heat that comes with it, especially 90 degree summer days. And while I am sad to have the summer end and have to bust out the winter clothes, I am excited to have college football starting back up. You may have noticed that I changed the header on my blog to reflect my favorite college football team.
Some of the best parts of college football, and really all college sports, are the rivalries. I love going to games and seeing the fans wearing their respective teams colors while cheering on their team. You just don’t get that same feeling with pro sports.
Plus, the guys on the field are playing for the love of the game more than the paycheck, which is another thing that annoys me about pro football. Of course, there is the fact that I am a Detroit Lions fan and that probably adds to my disdain for pro football. LOL
My wife is not looking forward to it, because that means that the TV will be on some college football game all day Saturday. Starting with College Gameday on ESPN. And the best part is that this year I get to watch Michigan play in HD, along with the myriad of other games that I will watch.
This season at Michigan will bring with it a new challenge because we have a new coach. And while I am not happy about the circumstances surrounding him leaving his previous school, I would be a fool to not say that I am not excited about what Coach Rod will do with the boys in the winged helmet. Hopefully, he can repeat the success of Bo Schembechler in his first season at Michigan and beat the bucks. All we need to do is take a page from the SEC.

i will play sec homer most of the season, but for now, i will be gentlemanly like. may your team start 1-0 this year. i really don’t want to see the same highlights for 12 plus months again. &:~P
okay, too hard to resist.
Father forgive me, i know not what i do!
Good luck this year!!! Lord knows my team will need it.
I’ll hand it to you–at least you have the fortitude to leave comments that disagree with you up and published on your blog.
Will LSU be this year’s Michigan? I doubt it, but I hope so.
Gavin, you are an evil man!
At least we creamed the SEC team that was defending National Champs and the Heisman Trophy winner.
Katie, I sure hope your team does well in the 2nd game of the season.
Derek, I think that ASU can stay within 7 of LSU. At least I would like to see them do it. All in all it should be a good game, because ASU is a very good team and proved it last year.
Hello from TN (don’t have to tell you which team is mine!)…just thought you might find this interesting. My father-in-law grew up in a little bend in the Caney Fork River called Walling, TN. He is now 84 but tells that when he was a child the Coach from Michigan who invented your unique helmets had a summer retreat not far from his home. Needless to say, for a young man growing up in the middle of nowhere during the depression, he made quite an impression by simply spending time with some of the local boys. Today his retreat is used by local Cub Scout troops for weekend camp outs.
muuhahaha! did you beat florida last year? i didn’t notice. that’s the thing, we pay attention to those who are in a championship game (cause we know the money benefits our conference and thus our school) but after there it is all our home team.. but i believe i do remember you beating florida, but “creaming”.. i think that might be overstating.
i suppose those anything over a 7 point win in big10 is a drubbing cause they move so slowly up and down the field. its like a 1 goal lead in soccer is insurmountable, boring but insurmountable.

gosh i love football smack talk!
Gavin, Michigan won 41-35 and the score could have easily been 55-21 except for 2 turnovers within the 5 yard line. And most people afterwards stated that it was a sound defeat of the defending National Champs. And the smack talk is half the fun of college football.
Amanda, I am assuming that you are a Vols fan. That is a really cool story about Fritz Crisler.
Meh, Ohio State is going to give us a run for our money that’s for sure. Will be the true test of our offense and defense . I’m more worried about our QB…..
You know it’s payback time. Let’s go Irish!
Sorry, Adam, but I think it will be another long season for Irish fans.
