Simon Says > Jesus Says I saw this video from Francis Chan about making disciples and it really hits home when he compares how most of us have all played "Simon Says" as a kid, but yet we think that when Jesus says all we need...

Prayer Answered?

Category : Faith, Life

It has happened. I have prayed that God would make a way for me to leave the job I had and he answered my prayer. Of course, I had also prayed that I would leave my job for a job as a youth pastor and that is not why I am out of work.

I am out of work because the economy here in Michigan has gotten so bad that the company I worked at for almost 15 years had to lay me off. As I said in a previous post my job is tied to the automotive industry, as most are in Michigan, and it has gotten to the point where people are just not paying. The company is owed a lot of money but if no one pays you then it is hard to continue paying your employees.

So as of Friday, 16 January 2009, I am unemployed for pretty much the first time since I was 15 years old. I filed for unemployment on Saturday, which thank God, is all done online. Fortunately there are not those long lines that people used to have to wait in. Now you simply go to the website and fill out your information and then hope your check comes in.

I don’t know how long I will not have a job. I have a few resumes out at some churches and hopefully I will hear something from them. I also will be sending out some more resumes to churches and I will also be putting my resume up on the Michigan Works Job Bank website, which I have to do to collect my unemployment. However, if nothing seems to be coming soon then I will just have to look into getting two jobs or something to make ends meet. I don’t want to do this because I would hate to have it take away from my time with the family, but I also need to provide a source of income and will do what I need to do. I have also put up a brief resume here on my blog, so if you know of anything let me know or pass it along to people you may know.

I know that God is behind all of this and I have a peace about it all even though I am scared. God just has a new and exciting adventure for us and though it may be rocky I will always follow Him! The verse that I have been clinging to since I started this journey to find a full-time ministry position has been Hebrews 11:8 and it sure seems fitting at this time.

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.

todd, sorry (but i suppose, okay) to hear of you getting laid off. there is always youth work popping up in nashville area if you are wanting to relocate. its not a good sign of youth life in nashville, but people move here by whatever means necessary and then go do something (usually music industry) when they get their chance.

We are willing to relocate. If you hear of anything let me know. I would really appreciate it.

Sorry to hear about the layoff, we’ll keep you in prayer. I’m laid off too since mid December.

Thanks, Lance. I will keep praying for you as well.
