Sometimes I feel like I am just stuck in a roundabout like Chevy Chase was in European Vacation just saying, “look kids, Big Ben… Parliament”. We have been house hunting for about a month now and it just seems like when we think we found the right place something happens and we don’t get the house. It reminds me of back when I was looking for a job as a youth pastor and we would be flown out to several churches as the leading candidate only to not get the job. No reason why other than they just felt it wasn’t what God wanted.
Back then when looking for a job as it is now with looking for a house Kim and I have been praying that God would just close the door where were not supposed to be and open the door where we are supposed to be. The hard part is that you just wish God would let us know that it will be house at this time. Instead of looking, offering, losing. It makes it hard to feel settled.
However, as I sit back and look at it I am reminded of the Bible verse that I have in my email signature of Hebrews 11:8 and is why I sign off as “Following Him” and why my tag line is “a crazy guy trying to follow God the best that I can”.
By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
I may not know where God is leading, but I am going to follow Him anyway. God has ALWAYS proven Himself to be faithful. The road may be difficult and it may feel like you are stuck in a roundabout, but I have learned that when I press into Jesus and follow Him with my whole heart that it turns out great.
It worked in 2009 when God led me to The River Church and I know following Him will continue to work. God has the right house for Kim and I. We are excited to be officially setting down roots here in Cincinnati and getting out of the rental house we have lived in for almost 6 years. God has amazing things in store for us and I am thrilled to see what they will be.
Meanwhile I need to get back to house hunting.
