Simon Says > Jesus Says I saw this video from Francis Chan about making disciples and it really hits home when he compares how most of us have all played "Simon Says" as a kid, but yet we think that when Jesus says all we need...

Adam and I are back on the road again, but this time we are heading back home. NYWC was great and I still have a few blog posts to make about some of the sessions I heard, but I am happy to be heading home.We are driving straight through and should be home about 9:00p tonight. I miss my family.

Zach Hunter: Be The Change

Category : Mobile Blogging, NYWC 07

This is Zach Hunter, who is like any other 16 year old, except that when his mom told him about slavery he decided something needed be done about that. So he wrote a book entitled “Be The Change” and he talks about we can be the change right where we are and no matter how old we are. What an amazing young man that should challenge everyone of us to do what we can to bring justice where there is injustice.

Michelle A Compassion Child

Category : Mobile Blogging, NYWC 07

Tonight they had a girl come up, who was a Compassion International child, and she shared about it had changed her life. She went from living in a home where her dad, who was addicted to drugs, had left the house to a woman that went onto college and has a career now.But her story did not end there, because she decided to give back. So she has sponsored her own Compassion child. I think that that is so cool, because she is passing on the blessing that God has given her. That is what the gospel is all about. However, her story did not end there, because she has reconnected with her father and he is back in the home. Her family is back together. So why don’t you consider sponsoring a Compassion International child.

But By The Grace Of God

Category : Mobile Blogging, NYWC 07

I ran into this guy at NYWC as we were both heading out to our perspective places to watch The Game. This is something that can only happen by the grace of God. LOL

One of us will be crying in a few hours and the other will be smiling. And I feel really bad for him. :)

But I do have to compliment him on his choice of Buckeye jerseys. It was Chris Spielman’s.

GO BLUE!!!

Andy Stanley – General Session 1

Category : NYWC 07

Andy Stanley spoke at the first session this afternoon. I have not heard Andy speak that much, but what I have heard I have been impressed with. Today was no exception.

Andy’s talk was about power and how when you are a pastor you have a power, whether you like it or not. But the question is how will you leverage that power. Will you leverage it for your own good or will you leverage that power for the good of the other people.

It was really interesting to hear from a guy who is pastor of one of the larger churches in America. And so he has a lot of power at his church and in the Church at large, because there are many other churches that look to him and his church, and model their churches after that. I always find it interesting to hear from the pastors of those influential mega-churches, because I think you can get a real feel for their heart and why they are doing what they are doing. And with Andy it seemed to me that really just wants to serve his church and his community the way that Jesus served. To me that is more important than any book, teaching, etc. that these guys could ever do.

I loved the comment that was made by the person who came up after him. She said that she attended his church and was on staff there as well, and that he not only talked about what he said but that he modeled it. That is great to hear.

I did not attend Shane Claiborne’s talk, but I heard that all he did was read from the Sermon on the Mount. And I heard lots of opinions regarding it, so I will have to get the CD and listen to it for myself. But I must say that I do not know how you can criticize someone for reading the very words of Jesus in one of the greatest sermons of all time.

The Varsity Bathroom

Category : Mobile Blogging, NYWC 07

I just had to share my Varsity bathroom experience with everyone. When you sit on the pot your legs are at the edge of the divider and you will notice that there are no doors on the stalls.I guess they just want to give you that whole school feel. It was weird and here I thought that the people I was with were the weirdest thing of the night.

Eating At The Varsity

Category : Mobile Blogging, NYWC 07

We went to the Varsity tonight. It is basically a 50′s style diner and drive-in. According to the plate it is the world’s largest drive-in.I had a coney dog, or as they say down here, a chili dog. It was pretty decent, but coney dogs in Detroit are way better. However, it is not about the food but the company. I have not laughed this hard in a long time.
