iGoogle

Category : Tech

iGoogleSo I am a little late to come to find out how wonderful iGoogle is and what a useful tool it is. I know that several people have already been using this for a long time now, but I hesitated mainly because I thought that it was easier to just navigate to the different sites I would normally go to. But then when I found out that it would in essence give me all those things in one easy place, plus much more, I was sold.

The other thing that iGoogle has that I find very useful is that it will integrate Google Reader with it as well as Google Analytics. So I can catch up on people’s blogs and see my own blogs site stats in one easy place. It really is an easy way to check your stuff on the web.

If you do not know what a reader is let me explain it real easily. When you go to your Google Reader page or better yet, your iGoogle page, it will have already gone and checked the blogs that you frequently read and pull up the latest posts for you and then you can read them right there. That way now you do not have to go to 5, 10, 15 or 20 sites to read their latest posts, but instead you go to one site and find out that only 5 of the 15 you frequent were updated. It is really handy and easy. I highly recommend it.

There is only one drawback to it and that is that it does not show up on other people’s site meters that you have actually read their blog post. So I would recommend that you occasionally leave comments letting them know that you are reading. It is just a nice thing to do. ;)

Speaking of RSS feeds…. I figured that I would let you know that I have put my blog up on FeedBurner, so you can subscribe to my blogs feed in your Google Reader. Not sure if the old feed is still active or not, so you may want to use this one. There is a link for it to the top left and here it is as well….

A Ray of Sunshine

Category : Tech

Today the world received a ray of sunshine from our friends in Cupertino, CA. People who work on Windows can now use what I consider to be the best browser out there. Apple’s Safari web browser. Try it out. But be warned that it is in it’s beta version right now. But I suspect by October it will get it’s final release when Leopard comes out.

Now if only they could come out with Apple’s Mail program. But at least I can use Thunderbird on my home PC. And that is WAY better than Outlook.

Windoze Most Basic Application….

Anyone who has worked on a Microshaft computer knows about CTRL+ALT+DEL, but do you know the history behind it? Well, now you do!

Microsoft Windows OSX…. err, Vista

Category : Tech

I saw this on YouTube and thought it was appropriate to post today with the Microsoft Vista coming out. This is from the 2006 WWDC and it is a comparison between the Mac OSX and Windows Vista. It is amazing how much Microsoft has blatantly ripped off from the Mac OSX.

I guess they took Apple serious when they posted these signs at the 2004 WWDC….

Just to help some of you out… Longhorn was the code name for the newest version of Windows and Redmond is where they are based! Too funny!

Why I Love My Mac….

Category : Tech

I recently decided that I would upgrade my iBook from a 30 gig hard drive to a 60 gig hard drive. I found one for $70 at bestbuy and bought it on Saturday. I was going to just swap out the old one and install the new one myself and then i saw the 17 pages of directions (with pics) on how to do it and decided against it. My friend, Dirk, also recommend that I not do it. So I checked the Geek Squad website to see if i could get a price and it was $60 to install. Then i checked CompUSA and they do it for only $30! So I checked with my local store and they do it even if the hard drive was not bought there. So I took it in yesterday evening and Kimmy picked it up this afternoon.

I told them not to load the software onto it, and that I wanted the old hard drive back. So when I got home from work I took out my Mac OS X disc and began to load it. While it was doing that I slipped my old hard drive into an external case that I have. After everything got loaded on, in about 20-30 minutes, it asked if I wanted to transfer files from an old mac or a partition on the hard drive. So I quickly plugged in my old hard drive and told it to transfer from there. It took all of my applications, files, and preferences over. And it then booted up and you could hardly tell that I had a new hard drive installed and had to reload in the OS. Now that is one seamless and inovative operating system. If only it would have been that easy when I had to do basically the same thing on my mommy’s windoze computer this weekend.

Anyway, figured I would boast once again in the wonders of Apple!

No Foolin’… Happy 30th, Apple Computers!!!

“Apple’s journey began in 1976 when two college dropouts — Jobs, a marketing whiz, and his friend Steve Wozniak, an engineering genius — filed partnership papers on April Fools’ Day, their eyes set on building and selling personal computers. Another friend, Ron Wayne, opted out of the risky venture within two weeks.” From Yahoo.

I am guessing that Ron Wayne has got to be kicking himself now. I know I would be!

Anyway, congratulations to Apple Computers, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak! And thank you for giving us a superior computing product!
