Simon Says > Jesus Says I saw this video from Francis Chan about making disciples and it really hits home when he compares how most of us have all played "Simon Says" as a kid, but yet we think that when Jesus says all we need...

I Love Seinfeld!

Category : TV

I love Seinfeld and think that it was one of the best sitcoms on TV right next to M*A*S*H. This is a mash-up of 100 quotes from the show. I am a firm believer that in just about every situation in life you can find a correlation to a Seinfeld episode.

Tweet Revenge

Category : Tech, TV

Twitter is becoming a really powerful tool and is beginning to influence the way companies do business. A lot of companies have people that do searches via Google to scour blogs and see what people are saying about their companies and now they are even including Twitter in that as well. Image is everything and if people have a negative image of your company and are badmouthing your customer service, product line or commercials via the blogosphere or in the Twitterverse that can really ruin a companies image. Especially in this economy.

Motrin recently experienced this with a recent ad campaign that they had and have now pulled. One of my friends blogged about it and expressed her opinion for the ad and how it showed bad judgment on Motrin’s part. And people on Twitter also talked about it so much so that it caused Motrin to pull the ad and issue and apology that as of today you can still see on the front page of their website. The USA Today had an article about week ago that talked about how “Moms offended by Motrin ad get tweet revenge through Twitter”. You can still find the ad on YouTube, which is another powerful tool that is influencing companies decisions. I am sure they will be getting the people at YouTube to pull all remnants of this ad, but for now it is still there. You can see it below.

Snuffleupagus Creator Dies

Category : Random, TV

Kermit Love, who was the creator of Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and most importantly Snuffleupagus, died last week Saturday (21 June 2008). I know this isn’t major news, but as someone who loves Snuffleupagus, which is why I have my blog address as “thesnuffy.com”, I was sad when I ran across this news today. As a kid I always loved when Big Bird would meet up with his best friend, Snuffy. It brings back such fond childhood memories. I even had a book where Snuffy met his friend Todd Porter that my grandma and grandpa had made for me.

If you did not know, which I didn’t realize until now, that Kermit Love portrayed the character of Willy the hot dog vendor. He also created the Snuggle bear for the Snuggle fabric softener. And I know many of you might think that his name was the inspiration for Kermit the Frog’s name, but Jim Henson had picked out that name before Kermit Love came to help create the Sesame Street characters. I was really amazed at his accomplishments when I read them and it is kind of sad that there wasn’t more news regarding his passing.

You can read more here about his life and passing.

Three T’s

Category : Random, Sports, Tech, TV

The first “t” is that I am tired. On Friday we had a youth staff retreat and we stayed up late playing games. So on Friday I woke up at 4:30a for work and then I went to bed at 3:30a that night. I was only awake for 23 hours. But I did manage to get 5 hours of sleep. And then of course last night I stayed up late to watch House after the Super Bowl and then had to get up at 4:30a for work. I was tired all day but I still went to the gym and worked out and then came home and took a nap.

The second “t” is for Twitter. I am just curious if anyone who read this blog Twitters. If you do post a comment and link me to your Twitter page. My Twitter page can be found here. It is a fun little site where you can update what you are doing throughout the day either by text or directly on the site itself, and then follow other friend’s “Tweets”.

The third “t” is for our new TV. On Thursday, Kimmy’s birthday, we got our Federal tax refund back and so we went out and bought an HDTV. We ended up getting a Sam’s Club. It is not the fanciest or largest, but it is perfect for our entertainment center and the price was good. Vizio is a very good brand of HDTV. We got the TV home just in time to take it out of the box, plug it in and watch Lost in HD. How sweet is that?

I even called up AT&T to get my U-Verse upgraded to receive the HD programs and they were able to connect it right over the phone in 5 minutes. Then it is supposed to cost $10 more a month, but they gave it to us free for a year. I also connected a old set of rabbit ears to the TV so I can get the HD on my picture in picture. If you have a HDTV do not believe the stores that say you have to have a set of digital antennas to receive the HD signal. Any set of antennas will pick it up, but I do recommend getting a powered set.

I love out HDTV. I only wish that the Super Bowls outcome came out better in HD then it did. But I do have to congratulate the Manning brothers for winning back to back Super Bowls. That is impressive.

I Will Be Happy When Today Ends

Category : Politics, TV

I am really getting sick of all the ads on TV, the phone calls, and the mailers. So I will be happy when today ends. I know it will all pick back up once the election in November kicks into high gear, but I feel like this primary has been going on since the beginning of last year. Speaking of the primary, I ended up voting for Ron Paul. Anyway, there needs to be a law passed that you can not campaign until a month before the date any election.

Speaking of laws….

There ought to be a law banning American Idol on TV, which is another reason why I will be happy when today is over with. Of course I know that it is only the start of that stupid TV show but a guy can dream, can’t he?

BAN AMERICAN IDOL

Why I Dislike American Idol

Category : Life, TV

I have never liked that dumb show. My wife and daughter like it, but I just can’t get into it. In fact, my wife won’t even watch it because I will leave the room and go watch something else when it is on. So she will change the channel and watch something else. I am not sure why, because when I watch football she goes into the other room and I don’t mind watching two different things.

I don’t feel this way, because it has the word “idol” in it’s title and the Bible says we are to have no false idols, like a friend of mine told me. But the reasons why I do not like it starts off with what people say is the best part. I can’t stand the auditions. I hate seeing these people getting up in front of national TV with the delusion that they have a good singing voice when it is clear that they don’t. Someone should have told them this before they get embarrassed in front of the nation. Then you have their parent’s coddling them and telling them it is okay, instead of telling their kids that Simon was right, you do have an awful voice and singing is not your gift nor talent.

Instead we have to have Simon telling them this and looking like the bad guy. Now don’t get me wrong, that is another aspect that I can’t stand. The brutality that these poor people have to go through at the hands of Simon Cowell. While I appreciate his honesty, I think he can be a little kinder in how he does it.

And then finally, I hate how it is very apparent that they are looking for a pop star only and for the most part a lot of musical genres get left out. You will never see an American Idol that is a rocker or rap type of singer. Sure, you will get someone who is country-ish, R&B-ish, etc. But they will be forced to adapt to a particular style. Just look at Kelly Clarkson, the music she first put out sucked! But then when she did her second album and went her own way, she excelled. American Idol is not about finding the best talent in whatever style they are, but to find the most popular person and fit them into the style the producers want. And if you don’t think it is a popularity contest, look at last year’s winner, the Jay Leno look alike.

So this year, I am being nice to my wife and taking up precious space on my TiVo’s hard drive so she can watch that show during the day while I am at work. I am such a good husband! And I am sorry to all of you people out there that sit through that stupid show.
