Simon Says > Jesus Says I saw this video from Francis Chan about making disciples and it really hits home when he compares how most of us have all played "Simon Says" as a kid, but yet we think that when Jesus says all we need...

WWDC 2009

Category : Tech

geekApple had the Worldwide Developers Conference this week and made some pretty sweet announcements. On Monday, I watched some of the live blog coverage on MacRumorsLive.com and then that evening I watched the video of it that Apple posted. I guess that makes me a geek.

Anyway, I was excited by a couple of their announcements. The first one was about the release of Snow Leopard. Apple is taking what is already one of the best operating systems out there and making it even better. Not only that but they are going to do it for only a $29 upgrade cost ($49 for a family pack). It doesn’t stop there, this is sounding like an infomercial, because when you upgrade to Snow Leopard from Leopard you will also gain 6GB of hard drive space! That is really unusual for an OS upgrade. I would love to see Microsoft even come close to doing either of those things with Windows 7. However, I doubt they will because they just seem to keep sliding further and further away from producing a quality OS.

Then I was really excited about the new MacBook Pro lineup. Especially with them making the 13″ MacBook into the Pro lineup and lowering the price. Apple is really doing a great job of lowering their price point so that they can grab an even bigger market share.

The new iPhone OS 3.0 is exciting as well. There isn’t a ton of extra features for the iPod Touch (Note: it is NOT an iTouch), but it will still be a very nice upgrade. I would love to be able to one day get an iPhone. However, I will probably wait until they are free from AT&T and available on the Verizon network. I love U-verse but I have not really been a fan of AT&T’s wireless service, so I will be excited to see what happens next year when Apple’s contract with AT&T ends.

I am looking forward to checking out some of these new tings that Apple is going to be introducing in the next week and coming months.

le Tour 2008

Category : Sports

This year’s le Tour de France was one of the best ones that I can remember. Team CSC Saxo Bank and Carlos Sastre stole the show and won it all, both the individual maillot jaune but also the team won the overall team time.

The Tour was filled with some spectacular stages that left you on the edge of your seat the whole time and cheering in the end. There was also some spectacular crashes that unfortunately claimed a few riders, but some dusted themselves off and got back in the saddle.

There was some people who tried to disgrace the beautiful sport of cycling by taking drugs to enhance their performance, but my hat goes off to the officials of le Tour and to the French authorities for not tolerating it. Everyone who tested positive was immediately thrown out of the race and arrested. Cycling is showing sport how you should handle people who try to disgrace their respective sport by taking drugs. In my opinion, people who are saying this is tearing down the sport of cycling are dead wrong, because the cycling officials are dealing with it swiftly and harshly. So I say thank you for saving this beautiful sport.

I must say that having Versus and a DVR is such a wonderful thing, because I was able to catch all the stages. So thank you U-verse for delivering such a beautiful digital signal to my house for me to enjoy le Tour. Now if only we can get Versus to do next year’s race in HD. Then I know that Andy and I will be very happy campers.

Next year look out for Christian Vandevelde of Team Garmin / Chipotle, who was this year’s tour surprise. He might just be wearing the maillot jaune next year on the Champs-Elysées

Three T’s

Category : Random, Sports, Tech, TV

The first “t” is that I am tired. On Friday we had a youth staff retreat and we stayed up late playing games. So on Friday I woke up at 4:30a for work and then I went to bed at 3:30a that night. I was only awake for 23 hours. But I did manage to get 5 hours of sleep. And then of course last night I stayed up late to watch House after the Super Bowl and then had to get up at 4:30a for work. I was tired all day but I still went to the gym and worked out and then came home and took a nap.

The second “t” is for Twitter. I am just curious if anyone who read this blog Twitters. If you do post a comment and link me to your Twitter page. My Twitter page can be found here. It is a fun little site where you can update what you are doing throughout the day either by text or directly on the site itself, and then follow other friend’s “Tweets”.

The third “t” is for our new TV. On Thursday, Kimmy’s birthday, we got our Federal tax refund back and so we went out and bought an HDTV. We ended up getting a Sam’s Club. It is not the fanciest or largest, but it is perfect for our entertainment center and the price was good. Vizio is a very good brand of HDTV. We got the TV home just in time to take it out of the box, plug it in and watch Lost in HD. How sweet is that?

I even called up AT&T to get my U-Verse upgraded to receive the HD programs and they were able to connect it right over the phone in 5 minutes. Then it is supposed to cost $10 more a month, but they gave it to us free for a year. I also connected a old set of rabbit ears to the TV so I can get the HD on my picture in picture. If you have a HDTV do not believe the stores that say you have to have a set of digital antennas to receive the HD signal. Any set of antennas will pick it up, but I do recommend getting a powered set.

I love out HDTV. I only wish that the Super Bowls outcome came out better in HD then it did. But I do have to congratulate the Manning brothers for winning back to back Super Bowls. That is impressive.

Merry Christmas, NFL Network

New England Patriots Present

From the New England Patriots.

The Patriots have given the NFL Network the best Christmas present ever. For those of you who do not know, the NFL Network has been in a battle with some of the cable companies over offering their channel on the basic cable service. And the cable networks want it to be a premium channel. I agree with the NFL Network and think that it should be a part of the basic package.

NFL NetworkThe cable companies thought that they could strong arm the NFL Network and force them to agree with them, thus making the NFL Network a premium instead of basic. They thought that they could do this because no one would care enough to actually complain about it. Well, the cable companies worst nightmare happened.

The New England Patriots are on the verge of history. They have the opportunity to become only the second team in NFL history to go through the regular season undefeated. And to add more to it, Tom Brady, who played for the University of Michigan, can become the record holder for the most touchdown passes in a single season. And Randy Moss can become the single season record holder for touchdown receptions. The NFL Network must be jumping for joy, because there is only one place that you will be able to see all of this and that is on the NFL Network.

I can imagine that the phones at the cable companies will be ringing off the hook all week with demands for the NFL Network to be offered on the basic channels. However, I do know that I need not worry about it at all because I have AT&T U-Verse and they offer it as a part of their basic service. But if I had cable I would be calling this week demanding the NFL Network. If you want more information as to what you can do go to iwantmynflnetwork.com and find out what you can do.
